Historical & Fun Facts:  Engine 231 was formed in 1892 and was located at Pitkin Ave in Brooklyn on March 1905. Engine 231 and Battalion 44 moved into its current fire house located at 107 Watkins St. One month later ladder 120 was organized and quartered in the new house as well. Over the years Watkins Street is historically one of the busiest fire houses in the FDNY. Members from the house have been recipients of many department commendations and unit citations. Watkins Street is known as a “study house”, which has led to many members being promoted all the way up to the rank of chief of department.
